Class A CDL Funding in Wisconsin: How to Pay for Your CDL and Get Started

Are you ready to launch a new career and earn your Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) but worried about how you’ll pay for it? Good news: if you’re in Wisconsin, there are multiple funding options available — and by combining them, you could even get your CDL completely free!

Why a Class A CDL is Worth the Investment

Truck drivers are in high demand across Wisconsin and the nation. Earning your Class A CDL opens doors to stable, high-paying jobs that offer independence, travel, and long-term career growth. Many new drivers can earn $60,000+ annually within their first year on the road.

But getting your CDL requires completing an approved training program, and tuition can be a hurdle. Thankfully, Wisconsin residents have access to several financial assistance programs designed to make this career jump possible.

Top Funding Options for Wisconsin CDL Students

1. Workforce Connection Grant Now Till August 2025

Veriha Driving Academy is approved for the Workforce Connection Grant, a program offering tuition assistance upfront.

If you qualify:

  • Half of your CDL training tuition is paid before you start at Veriha Driving Academy.
  • After you successfully complete your training and earn your CDL, the remaining half is covered by the grant.

This means fully funded CDL training without needing to pay tuition out-of-pocket or wait for reimbursement.

Minimal requirements include:

  • Wisconsin residency
  • Registering with your local Wisconsin Job Center before beginning the program
  • Being a hirable candidate for Veriha or other trucking companies
  • Passing an acceptable background check

Bonus: We receive the Workforce funding prior to your first day at the Academy — no waiting!

2. Commercial Driver Training Grant Now till December 2025

Wisconsin residents may also be eligible for the Commercial Driver Training Grant through the Department of Workforce Development (DWD).

Here’s how it works:

  • Once you complete CDL training and successfully earn your Class A CDL, you’ll be reimbursed $2,250.
  • This grant rewards your commitment and reduces your financial burden after graduation.

By combining the Workforce Connection Grant and the Commercial Driver Training Grant, many students are able to complete CDL training with little to no out-of-pocket cost.

💡 With these two grants combined, many Wisconsin students can get their Class A CDL training 100% reimbursed!

3. WIOA Funding (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act)

The Wisconsin Division of Workforce Development (DWD) provides WIOA funding to displaced workers, individuals from abusive family situations, and those seeking to advance into higher-paying careers.

If you qualify, WIOA can cover the cost of your CDL training tuition. To apply:

  • Contact your local Wisconsin Job Center.
  • Tell them you want to attend Veriha Driving Academy.
  • Make sure they know we’re listed under Veriha Enterprise LLC on the Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL).

WIOA Requirements:

  • Must meet eligibility guidelines based on employment or financial hardship
  • Registration through the local Job Center
  • Work with a career planner to apply

4. FSET Program Assistance

The FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET) program, managed through Forward Service Corporation, offers additional support services for those who qualify.

FSET can assist with:

  • Fuel stipends
  • Food stipends
  • Other essential living expenses during training

FSET Requirements:

  • Must be eligible for FoodShare (SNAP)
  • Work with an FSET case manager to coordinate support

These services can significantly reduce day-to-day expenses and allow you to focus on completing your CDL training successfully.
